Significance of Dhanteras
Dhanteras holds great importance in Hindu culture. The word ‘Dhanteras’ is derived from two Sanskrit words — Dhan meaning wealth and Teras meaning the thirteenth day of the lunar fortnight. On this day, it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk during the churning of the sea (Samudra Manthan) carrying a pot of gold and prosperity.
